Our History

Back in the early 1950's, a memorable event was held to celebrate the Coronation. Members of the community enjoyed the celebrations in a marquee which was put up on Red Hall playing fields.

A group of people got together and went round the community asking people to donate or lend money. The funds raised enabled them to go to an area of Sheffield and bid on a building, from a temporary village,set-up for the workers on the Sheffield to Manchester tunnel.

The building they bid on was the cinema and for us it was the start of a community centre. It was transported and put up on the current site by Monkmans who built the estate and gave us the site for the WHRA.

More than fifty years later it is thriving, thanks to those who started it and to all who have kept it going to make it what it is today.

The Association is successful in the promotion of a wide range of activities through several sections, who ensure that there is something of interest to those from the youngest to the more Senior members of the community.
